Fuse copper!

Hi, I have been thinking about fusing copper instead of soldering. From what I could find most said it was not  good idea  since copper gets a load of fire scale, but LOOK! Jewlie Beads does it easy and made diy nontoxic pickle to boot

Artists and Disabilities

I usually don't post about personal issues, but I wanted to reach out to others like me out there.

I wanted to know how you deal with the drive to be creative and the obstacles thrown in your way by your disability.

I am dealing with Degenerative Disc Disease, Osteoarthritis of the neck and spine, stenosis, spondylosis of the spine, osteoarthritis of the knees. Severe tendonitis in my arms from using a cane every day. I can hardly work at my desk since looking down at my desk causes terrible migraines and intense burning in my neck and sharp pains to shoot thru my face from my neck. Not to mention the torso pain caused by trying to use my hands!😧 from my thoracic osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease, etc. Plus my Dr's think my epidurals and pain killers are what's causing my adrenal insufficiency, which causes severe fatigue, nausea, headaches, etc. After taking a short 10 minute walk I have to lay down for an hour to recuperate.

Here is a picture of me having to lay down in bed and work because the pain in my neck gets so bad I cannot sit in a chair and look down at my hands at all, I have to lay on my side keep my neck straight and bring my hands up to eye level. ;^(

How do you use your creativity to take your mind off the pain, and how do you manage to be creative?

Rena Klingenberg tutorials

I also used a Dremel engraver to create lines on metal surface prior to patination.

Great clasp!

This is her channel on YouTube

My messy desk and my two attempts.  I am going back to her vid to do a dozen more, I like this style of clasp much better than the ol' hook and eye simple clasp, you can see in the background of this pic.

Modern Primitive

Just finished a piece for the new line.
I love the roughness of the chain, the obvious marks left by the hammer on the links, the imperfect wire wrapped pendant against the pristine turquoise cabochon.
I wanted this piece to look like it had been made in a mad max world contrasting against the cool smooth perfection of the stones glossy surface and the vivid blues and ochre of the turquoise.
I know I know, some feel it's a sin to use copper with turquoise lol ;) , I hear ya. But I love the way the fiery orange roseyness of copper plays against the intense blues in the turquoise.
I will be using silver after I purchase more supplies.

BOILED EGG NON TOXIC PATINA

Newest pieces

I am using dead soft wire for EVERYTHING  since I am disabled and I have a hard time using my hands. I am learning some wire working techniques from Rockhounds.com and Jewelrymakingjournal.com for a new line I hope to put at our Etsy store
Here are some picks of the items I am currently working on.
I used the boiled egg technique to oxidize the copper chain a great non toxic method. I learned from Rena Klingenberg at www.jewelrymakingjournal.com

a few all time favorites

I made these a few years ago, but I never get tired of looking at semi precious stones and gems. There's something about the smooth cool touch of a stone that is soothing to me, and the vivid minerals are nourishing to my minds eye :) I am obsessed with rocks lol
